What kind of content is in the membership?

The Horizons+ Membership is loaded with benefits! You’ll get immediate access to the majority of courses, two monthly lesson modules with resources, two monthly LIVE Q&A sessions, monthly sheet music and backing track credits, inclusion in a private members-only group (outside the distraction of social media) and first opportunity to buy new flutes, products and spots to join live teaching programs before the general public!


Which main courses are included in the Horizons+ Membership?

At the time of launching Horizons+  (3/13/22), the following courses are made available in the membership:

Are there discounts on private lessons with you?

No. However, as a member of Horizons+, you will receive first notice of availability as well as any promotions that we are running. 


What if I already have all the sheet music that you offer? Will new sheet music be coming soon?

Just as creativity ebbs and flows, so do our new offerings. We try to offer new pieces of Sheet Music regularly to keep you interested in learning new songs. In the event that you run out of options for a new piece, please reach out to me at [email protected].


What are lesson modules?

Lesson Modules consist of one or more videos with resources that pertain to one certain topic, exercise or assignment. Think of this as if you and I were to sit down for an in-person lesson. I will walk you through the process of doing something and give the respected resources for you to practice that particular task. Lesson Modules are released on the 1st and 15th of each month.


I'm an advanced player, what new and unique information will I learn in this program?

Horizons Flute School itself is built on a model of expansion. We’ll be adding all sorts of content and learning materials for flute players of all levels–beginner, intermediate and advanced. This isn’t a one-way street either. We listen to our members and create resources and opportunities based on the feedback submitted so that no one gets left behind. 


Is this program suitable for beginners?

Yes. We’ve designed Horizons to be a platform for flute players of all levels. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned musician of NAFs, we believe there is something here for everyone. 



What is the difference between Horizons Flute School and Horizons+? 

Horizons Flute School is the name for Jonny’s teaching platform which houses all the learning resources. Horizons+ is our low-cost, monthly membership plan that gives you access to many of the courses and other learning opportunities. There is also an option to purchase courses individually outside of the membership.



Courses vs. Membership Questions

What if I have already bought all the courses that are offered in the membership?

If you’ve already purchased courses that are available, then you’ll keep access to those courses whether you’re in the membership or not. 


How is Horizons+ different than buying the courses?

The Horizons+ Membership offers a holistic approach to learning and support that goes beyond coursework. You’ll have more support, access to Q&A sessions, a private members-only community and ongoing lesson modules!


Can I still purchase courses if I’m not in the membership?

Yes! You can purchase an individual course. If you do purchase an individual course, you will keep access to that course whether or not you have an active subscription Horizons+.


Do I have to participate in social media to be in the membership?

Not at all. We heard from so many flute players who want to have access to a community without being involved with Facebook or any other social media platform. Horizons+ has a community feature that’s hosted natively on this platform and is not connected to any other social media site.


If I sign up for the membership, is this automatic enrollment for the Horizons Flute School? Is the membership linked to, or part of the school?

Billing Questions

What if I don't want to be in the membership anymore and I've already paid for a year?

If you’ve paid for a Yearly Subscription, you will keep your membership until your year is up and will not be billed for the next year. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for unused membership time.


How do I pay for my membership? 

You can purchase courses and the membership with any major credit card during the checkout process.


Can I sign up for less than a year?

Yes! You can sign up month by month or by the year. 


If I'm not satisfied with my membership, can I cancel and get a refund?

You are welcome to cancel your membership at any time. Please keep in mind that we do not offer refunds for any unused membership time. Will my membership auto-renew?

Yes, you will be billed automatically on the same day of each consecutive month or year.


When will membership renew (day of the month)?

Your membership will renew either monthly or yearly on the day of the month or year that you enrolled. For example, if you signed up on March 13th for a monthly plan, you will be charged on April 13th for the next month; if you signed up on March 13th for a yearly plan, you will be charged on March 13 of the following year. 


Is my information protected (privacy)?

We do not sell, rent or publish your information anywhere or to anyone. Horizons is hosted on a service called Thinkific and we abide by their privacy policy as well. 


When can I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your membership at any time. Please keep in mind that there are no refunds given for the unused membership time. For example, if you paid for a yearly membership plan starting in March and you cancel six months later, you will not be offered a pro-rated refund for 6 months. 


Do I still have access to courses if I cancel my membership?

If you cancel your membership, you will lose access to courses, the private community, 2x/mo. lessons and any perks. However, if you purchased a course outside of the membership, you will keep access to that course after your subscription lapses. 


Can I pay yearly membership in small payments?

We don’t offer an installment option for the yearly membership, however, we do offer a monthly price that may fit better with your budget.  


How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your membership with these steps. Log into Horizons, go to My Account, then Billing. Once you’re in Billing you will see your Subscriptions and Payments. From there you will see an option to cancel your membership. The subscription will then change to "Canceled" and you will automatically lose access to the associated content at the end of your billing period. If I pay yearly, can I skip my membership for a month(s)?

We do not have an option to put your membership on pause to resume later. If you are on a monthly subscription, you may cancel and restart your subscription if you need to take a hiatus. If you’ve paid by the year, we cannot pro-rate the unused membership time.


How do I stop the membership from auto-renewal?

Access & Login Questions

What if I can't access the membership site?

Where do I find my login information?

When you sign up and purchase a course or membership, you will receive an email with information on logging in and how to access your learning materials. Please keep in mind that your login will be the email address you provide during the checkout process. If you get stuck, please reach us at [email protected] 


Can I share my login with friends, flute circle members, etc?

No. We appreciate academic honesty and content security. For those reasons, if you share your login credentials, videos, PDFs or any other materials from Jonny Lipford or Horizons with another person, you will be removed from the platform immediately. 

 

Do I need to download a mobile app to access the portal from my mobile devices?

No. Horizons Flute School is all web-based. You won’t need to download any app to access materials. To read and open PDFs, you may need to download adobe acrobat or something similar on mobile devices. Occasionally, there will be talk about different music apps which may be helpful in your flute journey. These are not pertinent to your access to learning materials on the Horizons website. 


Do I need to sign up again since you have changed the name of your flute school?

All accounts that were created under the original Native Flute Academy have been transferred to Horizons Flute School. There’s no need to create a new login. Whichever courses you had in the Native Flute Academy, you will also have in Horizons Flute School. This does not include access to Horizons+, which is our membership option. You can enroll in Horizons+ and start reaping the many benefits offered in that program. 


Which browser should I use to access the portal?

Horizons is best accessed through Chrome and Firefox browsers. Some students have had issues in the past with Safari. 


Will the platform work on mobile devices?

Yes, you can access learning materials from your desktop, laptop, tablet, phone, etc. This platform works best in Chrome or Firefox browsers. There have been some quirks with Safari. 


What equipment will I need to make the most of my membership?

Flutes of course! We’re all here to learn and grow. The quantity of flutes is not important, but what is important is that you have a quality, well-tuned flute. I teach with multiple keys of flutes, so there is no one flute that is better than the rest. If you want to participate in the LIVE Q&A Session, it is recommended that you have a device that can access Zoom. 


Can I pause my membership for a period of time if needed?

We don’t have a “pause” feature, but you can cancel and rejoin as needed. Keep in mind though, in the future we may adopt open and closed enrollment periods. So the membership may be closed for enrollment when you want to rejoin and you’ll need to be on a waitlist. 


Is there a free trial available?

At this time there is not. We may run promotions in the future.


How do I participate in the monthly Live Q&A sessions?

From your student dashboard, you will see a link to the Live Q&A Sessions on the left. We host these at different times to accommodate different schedules. These sessions are hosted on Zoom and you will need to register for the session(s) that you want to be a part of. Times and dates of these sessions are listed on that specific page and are updated regularly. 


Can I access these learning resources anytime from anywhere?

Yes! As long as you have a device that can operate a browser (Chrome, Firefox preferred) and a mobile data or internet connection, you are able to access any of the materials.


Can I download the video content in the lessons and courses?

No. We do not allow downloading or embedding videos for any reason.


How can I get the most out of my membership?

Participate! Ask questions! Dig in! The more that you’re involved in this membership, the more you will grow as a flute player and as a person!
